    March 26, 2014 Meeting
Jordan Arata

The Beltsville Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room at the James E. Duckworth School, 11201 Evans Trail, in Beltsville, Md.

This month’s speaker will be Jordan Arata of the University of Maryland. His talk,

The Buzz on Native Bees

will be about the different types of native bees in our area, current issues, and what can be done to help these important pollinators. He will also talk about the beehives that are kept above a University of Maryland dining hall, and the University’s role in helping create a more bee friendly community.
Jordan Arata is a mechanical engineering major at the University of Maryland. Since 2012 Jordan has worked with native bees for the University of Maryland PollinaTerps, an organization in which students, staff, faculty, local scientists and community members work to build a bee friendly community through research, education, habitat creation and preservation. He is a founder of the University of Maryland Apiary, where he takes care of the hives and teaches others how to bee keep.

Please note that if Prince Georges County Schools are closed, or close early, due to inclement weather, the meeting will not be held.

Refreshments will be served after the meeting. Bring a plant, or plant related material for the club’s door prize table. The public is welcome and admission is free.
