    September 30, 2015 Meeting

Robin Everly:

“On Being a Botanical Librarian: Tales From the Stacks”

The Beltsville Garden Club will hold its September general meeting on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose room of the James E. Duckworth School on 11201 Evans Trail in Beltsville, Maryland.

Please join the Beltsville Garden Club for an engaging presentation by Robin Everly, “On Being a Botanical Librarian: Tales From the Stacks”. Robin has been a botanical and horticultural librarian for fifteen years, first with the U.S. National Arboretum and now at Smithsonian Libraries. She has learned so much about America’s garden history from the books and journals in these libraries, that it is time to share that knowledge and “tell their stories”. Robin will present some of the lesser known books and facts about America’s gardening history, such as “When the modern lawn was invented” and “the role 19th century and early 20th century World Fairs have had in shaping our landscape architecture history”. She will also talk about her role as a librarian for Smithsonian Gardens staff and discuss the lovely theme gardens surrounding the Smithsonian buildings on the mall.

For the past 30 years, Robin Everly has worked in the information professional field. In addition to working as a librarian, she has also worked at the National Agricultural Library and the National Cancer Institute. She is an active member of Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries (CBHL) and served as President of the Botanical Society of Washington in 2013. She has a Masters in Library Sciences (M.L.S.) and a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Maryland.

Members are asked to bring a plant or plant related item for the door prize table. Also, contributions of sweet or savory refreshments are always appreciated.
